Innovation. Education.

Building community through technology and design.

Welcome To River City Labs

This is brief introduction to who you are. Not who each individual is, but what the purpose of the organization is. Get this out front. This needs to be engaging, becuase this is your first impression on your site visitor. What do you want them to do when they’re here? Do you want them to become members, or donate to the group? Or both? The about page can get into way more specifics, but this needs to grab the reader’s attention and make them want ot do whatever it is you’re asking them to do.

Most importantly, talk about what you do that makes you a relevant part of the community. How are you involved in education, innovation, or technology. What are you doing to make the world a better place. This needs to sound like it’s bigger than just a club of like-minded individuals, especially since you have the opportunity to make it so much more than that.

If you have a goal for the future of RCL, this is where you need to say that.

Short introduction to what Midwest MakerFest is. Make it awesome, and make them want to click the button to find out more. This is a premiere event, and probably the one place you get the most exposure for the group.

The blog post should assume that random strangers are coming here, and have limited knowledge. Videos are great too, but it’s important to have descriptions and at least a little bit of text. What’s the purpose of the blog? Is it just to share information with other members? I feel like you could really use Slack for that But if the purpose is to showcase yourself as a source for education and advancing the maker community, then you need to have blog posts designed around that purpose...

This would be a great place to call out membership opportunities. “Like what you see? Become a member today, and get exclusive access to the member blog, build nights, and all of the equipment and expertise. We’re always looking for motivated makers, that help build this community, and work throughout the city to promote the maker movement. If you have what it takes to inspire others, or have a desire to hone your skills, then River City Labs is the place for you.” I don’t know. That might be too cheesy, but whatever. It helps to build page content, which is good for SEO, and helps to let people know the kind of members you want.
